Madison at the CSI

Despite less than stellar results the seven Madison regulars (counting our semi permanent visitor Alex) enjoyed their trip to the Central States Invitational held last weekend in Chicago.  Attending a live tournament is a great way to be involved in backgammon, and to get to rub elbows with some of the best players in the world. If you are interested in attending a live event Bill Minser has brochures for many of the upcoming tournaments at all of the club meetings. You can also find a complete list of upcoming live tournaments at http://www.chicagopoint.com/calendar.html.  And if you want to try an ABT tournament without the need to travel don’t forget that Madison host a tournament over Labor Day weekend. We would love to have everyone that considers Madison their club to enter that event.

Update for March 1, 2011

Tournament Results

Tuesday night we had 13 people entering the tournament, including a new comer playing for the first time. Steve Reuschlein and Alex Gerding met in the final. Steve pulled out a victory after trailing 4-0 in the 5 point match, starting his comeback with a gammon in the Crawford game.  William Womack defeated John Pippin 5-0 in the consolation final, which was clocked due to the consolation bracket running late.

Trophy Night 2/15/11

The first order of business on Tuesday night was to present awards to the 2010 champions.

Jacki lost to Steve in the second round, but came through the consolation flight to face Steve again in the finals of the double elimination tournament. Jacki took the first match in the finals, handing Steve his first lost in the tournament, but Steve rebounded to take the second match and the 2010 Douse Cup.

Chouette Tuesday with a Twist: Feb. 8, 2011

This week the Madison Backgammon Club saw a little twist to the normal "non-tournament Tuesday" activities. We held a 4 person round robin mini-tournament. All of the matches were clocked 7-pointers, which kept things moving along and gave a few of us some much-needed practice with clocked play....

Recap for Tuesday Feb 2, 2011

Despite a raging blizzard outside, eight brave souls made it to Basie's for the first February tournament. It was the lowest turnout in quite awhile, but higher than it should have been by about eight. Our regular out-of-towner, Alex Gerding won the consolation bracket. Brad Andersen and Charlie Walter met in the final. Leading 2-away, 4-away and holding a 2-cube, Brad hit a lucky last shot to avoid a gammon and win the title.

The 2010 trophy presentation was postponed until February 15th due to the weather. See you next Tuesday for chouettes.
